Dr. Tamar Bat El

Registered Clinical Counsellor

Hello! I have been working with people from all walks of life for over 20 years. My passion is to help people uncover their strengths in their darkest and most challenging life moments. My practice has involved treating individuals who have struggled with a variety of conditions, including but not limited to: depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, personality disorders, and substance abuse. I have devoted many years of clinical training and practice to treating clients who have experienced PTSD and Complex Trauma, along with other comorbid disorders.

In order to stay fresh and current, I am always learning and integrating new therapeutic modalities into my practice. I have been extremely fortunate to train and learn from leading world experts in the field of trauma treatment. My approach involves bringing intuition, presence, compassion, and curiosity to my work in order to help people make sense of their symptoms in a meaningful way to incite lasting change. To this end, I consider myself privileged to have been able to work with clients who have survived physical or sexual assault, domestic or interpersonal violence, and child abuse or incest.

My treatment paradigm is primarily relational, psychodynamic, and depth-oriented, although I strive to work from a holistic lens. Since we are all different, I tailor treatment to fit each person's needs. In doing so, I attempt to integrate a variety of conventional approaches to treatment, including: CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems, and other evidence-based modalities. I also consider myself to be influenced by Existential Psychology.

I believe each person is the best expert on their own life experiences. As such, my aim is to help those I work with become the best version of who they are meant to be.

I have completed my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and am in the process of registering with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia.
